Michael Jordan's legacy of shockingly chic suits
for GQ.com in advance of ESPN documentary about the suit god
Wrote a story for GQ about Michael Jordan’s … outstanding formal style as a pro athlete:

ahead of the documentary about his life that airs on Sunday (two eps a week for a month-plus). There was a lot there. He is so well-dressed at times it is insane. He looks like Humphrey Bogart or something here:
He’s even wearing his tearaways like a 1930s movie. Slick. Also I love that they fit a basketball inside the cereal. I love Jordan’s Hall of Fame speech… I think it is the best part about him. He is a steamroller… Also his baseball career — he hit .200 against Double-A pitching after a decade away from baseball (and he was a pitcher in high school) … the sheer force of will is mind-melting. He was 6’6! That’s a massive strike zone. Incredible. Just beyond incredible. LeBron James is great, as a basketball player he is much better than Jordan, he did more than Jordan did with lousier teams, he’s faster and stronger and has more facets to his game, he’s done about as many insane individual single-game things as Jordan has, he’s better at being bald than Jordan, he seems to be a philanthropist of a true order and has grown to be an all-time heroic and decent individual… his shoes aren’t as good … but he’s a little more clinical and skimpier on the lore and sheer mania than Jordan. Maybe it is all a function of our age. What I like most about Jordan is that he was covered like a hero but was a maniac from the get. Who knows. I sold all my Jordans in 2013 and only have three pairs of Air Sangs now, I’m still looking for the ones with the arrow swoosh.
Thanks for reading, be safe.
