10 items on LiveAuctioneers ending this week I think are undervalued, or affordable — auctions ending soonest first. (Instructions on bidding at email bottom — if you buy any of this stuff, let me know)
Gianfranco Frattini Bernini dining table, LA from Chicago, in-house shipping: Always hard to find a dining table cheaper than a good couch, this early Frattini hints at what’s to come for him (plastic, the Sesann) but is planted in modern. Earlier auctions for this table (diff. house) were passed. Nice deal at $500
Kartell Francois Starck mirror, LA from Hudson NY: I really don’t like Philippe Starck, but he does have a couple of hits. This is one: simple, loud, more Hamas green, local to NY. Fair price at $175
Franco Albini & Franca Helg wall lamp, LA from Chicago, IHS: So few sconces that aren’t ugly as shit or too sexy. This one’s neither…. it’s just about perfect. The lighting Albini did with Helg is his best work, or my favorite. Might be her — she’s worth reading up on. The last couple of these averaged $2350. Steal at $650
Loewy for Rosenthal script, 14 setting, LA from LA: A little fussy, but porcelain, and serves 14 people: two basketball teams, two coaches, two fans. If there’s a throughline between this, the DF 2000 and the Greyhound bus I can’t find it right now. Deal at $100
Ferrieri valet for Kartell, LA from NC: All the good valets are in Europe, none are here. Probably something to do with shipping. This thing’s just about the ideal LA item: nothing like it in stores or on CL, or even IG, and cheap. $50
Theodore Waddell lamp, LA from Providence: Smaller than it looks in the pic above, the Kaaba-esque black box is the size of the palm of the auctioneer’s hand. In line with some more industrial Colombo lighting. Co-designed with Dante Bandini, for Manetti, on collection at the MoMa, and the SNAKE LOCK OF THE WEEK. $70
Saporiti sofa, maybe Offredi, LA from Hudson NY: Possibly designed, per the house, by Giovanni Offredi, but it doesn’t matter. Saporiti’s good enough when you think about it. Loud pattern, early 80s, full length. $100
Cardin aluminum table, LA from LA: 70s, wood base, signed by PC, just about a perfect piece of furniture. Perfect! Just perfect! $250
Odds and ends:
4 Magistretti stacker chairs, Hudson, $900
Cini Boeri Arflex queen bed, LA, $1500
Schultz for Knoll dining table, chairs, NJ, $950
Paul Tuttle post-MCM rocking chair NY state $80
