First up:

Teal the Darkness
Knoll butterfly stool, Long Island, Wed.: A classic shape, for sure, similar to the Ny chair and other camp pieces, but a curious piece specifically based on auction description and detail. How’s a piece of furniture from the 50s/60s—this design is actually from 1938, by Jorge Hardoy; this production is from the 1960s—this color? Very bright, futuristic. Well, a few reasons. One, production of these chairs in the 1960s had the occasional tilt towards loud/pop/color/camp. Probably Knoll getting in on it.
What’s more curious is the teal—feels mega bright for something over 50 years old; kind of more early 90s. The color, though, has been in use in nature for, conservatively, longer than that—it pops up now and then in Paris:
and is arguably in Starry Night. What’s wilder is how bright, how unfaded the chair is. Disconcerting. It’s a coin flip between this an the Ny chair, since those angles feel a bit more solid. Knoll here is part of a very approachable auction with many no-reserve lots detailed below.
