Snake America: Ides of October, ending soon
Snake is a bi-weekly email covering joints on eBay, Craigslist, YouTube, the analog world, along with errata, diet tips, etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/351190896438 - (auction active at press time) - I try not to shit where I eat but I've been looking for this exact pair of shoes--in my size, which these might be--since... the Hell's Kitchen flea market show from late 2009 in which I saw them at the Cherry Vintage dude's booth but had to leave early because my companion became violently ill. These have gotten reissued, in a sense, by RRL. But the reissues don't look close at all. They're not made of the same material or on the same last. I'll just say it here. Old clothing is art and should be evaluated as such. The new-old stuff is not the same--it's to the original what a print, or worse, is to the original. Of course, these won't be wearable since the sole is crumbled. But these are sneakers. Anyways, that's a tangent since these haven't been retroed. They are arguably the most tasteful sneakers in American history. They were standard issue in WWII, and they should remake the movie that was about the life of the $20 bill, starring the guy from Friends (USA, 1995) about the different people who were forced to wear these while fighting for our country, and the lives they led afterwards. I bet a lot of them became/become either obese or rich--but never both. I won't win these, and worse, you can't search by bidder anymore, so I won't know who won them.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131320911307 - neat story about this guitar, it's the one Doug Holland played in the (actual) Cro-Mags. 1980s. What a good-looking guitar. His is a 1975--I messaged him on Myspace in 2007, doing research before I bought mine and he said he bought it new from the mall store, but didn't answer any questions after that. They go for about ... $3500 now if I remember right. Or they did in 2007 so I didn't buy them. I saw the (kind of) Cro-Mags in 2001 (a summer in which I made $1,000 working full-time), and he had this guitar, playing with his strap over his picking shoulder. Never seen anyone do that before or since. He stopped being in the band, and since then has appeared in a news story about a fistfight at the Chinatown McDonald's, between either two customers or a guy working there and a customer, in which he was a witness and was listed wrong on the chyron (as a Frank Lu, I think). The story aired around 2009, and the YouTube has been taken down just this summer. The seller re-listed this guitar after they couldn't sell it for $2,000 flat. That's because they put speed tuners on the bridge. What a piece of shit. If this sells, we all go to prison. Just awful.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtRPB8xHP8M - not sure what to say here, but the moment I've been waiting for for (redacted) years is finally here: I'm into tabla music . Not sure who this guy is, or if he has any other joints songs ragas Megadeth covers raga besides this one, but the entire hour is worth a crank. I found it subscribing to my friend MP's favorites channel on YT, which is killer enough. I feel like the three hours of music that Don Henley/Alice Munro/Eddie Sutton listen to a year is closer to Husain than anything else in my collection. I mean, this guy's a professor at Stanford and did stuff with Bill Laswell. 1/2. I wonder what kind of coffee table he owns. So it's nothing too wild. But, pretty good.
Thanks for reading. Questions, tips, errors, complaints, etc. go here, in replies. Tell your friends, enemies, or tell a friend and watch them become an enemy. And vice versa.
